Civilian liveries for the AH DH Chipmunk.
G-BCSA - With additional markings for the Shenington Gliding Club, from Edgehill, just up the road from my home airfield.
This livery retains the lines of the original but paints it to represent a ‘Super’ Chipmunks - however the intake, cowling and exhaust are inaccurate.
The RAF Gliding and Soaring Association converted a number of Chipmunks from Gypsy Major to Lycoming power for glider tugging.
This increased power from 145 HP to 180 HP and reduced weight by 150 lbs but many considered it spoilt the lines of the Chippie…so not for the purist.
OTOH the Chipmunk designer wanted to fit a flat four but too many cheap Gypsy Majors were available...
You could edit the Chipmunk engines.cfg file to increase its power (power_scalar=1.24 maybe) but I find the base Chipmunk to be over-powered anyway so have left it alone.
