Sadia was a meat packing industry whose president´s son grew up being fascinated by aviation. Omar Fontana once saw that some Panair's DC-3s would be grounded in Congonhas airport over weekends and create4d a business plan in order to rent these aircraft to freight fresh beef from his father´s factory to one of the biggest consumer markets, which would not be possible by road due to the distances and road conditions.
The operation was quickly a sucess and soon it became an official operation with the aquicisiton of the fist DC-3, the PP-ASJ named "Pioneiro" which Omar would fly himself. The passenger operations was a natural extension from the beef freight flights using dorment routes from Cruzeiro, and other DC-3s and C-46 were added, turning the company into a passenger airline as it's main focus.
With the operations increasing, the aged DC-3s were traded then in with Handley Page in order to purchase Dart Heralds between 1966 and 1967, including the "Pioneiro" ASJ. Not much later Sadia was rebranded as Transbrasil, removing the branding ties with the meat packing company.
