Welcome to NZNV, Invercargill Airport, the southernmost airport on the New Zealand mainland and my home airport.
From here, Queenstown, Rakiura, Te Anau, Fiordland and the rest of New Zealand is your destination.
Invercargill airport was built in 1938 on an area of reclaimed land that currently, in places, sits below sea level. As such the airport has flooded twice, once in 1984 where it was closed for 2 months, and again in 1987. At this time the city council considered moving the airport back to another area being considered back in 1938, on a hill on the north side of Invercargill where the airforce had marinated a strip for military operations. After the flooding, a system of stopbanks was placed on all the rivers around Invercargill and pumping stations placed near the airport, no flooding has occurred since.
Invercargill airport has been receiving regularly scheduled flights since 1944 and has grown from there. In 2005 the runway was increased to 2,210m and is currently the fourth-longest in New Zealand. The apron was also upgraded at a similar time to handle larger aircraft. Air New Zealand operate ATR-72, Bombardier Q300 and Airbus A320 aircraft from the airport, while Stewart Island Flights operate BN2 Islander, PA-32, and C-185E to Stewart Island. Mainland Air also operates a PA-31-350 between Invercargill and Dunedin. The occasional international flight lands here when Dunedin or Queenstown is closed, with customs support coming from the Port of BLuff.
Antarctic connection. Invercargill airport has also over time supported the Antarctic Program as an emergency stop or technical stopover site. In the past, JATO units were used to assist take-off, however, due to the length the largest aircraft that has landed at the airport was a Boeing C-17 Globemaster.
This is my second upgrade, so any advice welcome. Any local fliers please feel free to let me know where I need to update more detail. I have tried to be accurate within the limitations of what is already in the sim. I do plan to build my own terminal and other assets however this will take time. I have added the drainage ditches, and enabled more accurate parking bays and taxiing. The city council built hangers (the rounded ones) have been inserted for realism. I have added the tables beside Southern Wings and a few others. I am still working out some issues, but would also like feedback.
If you liked this, check out my other upgrade for the region with Ryan's Creek Aerodrome on Rakiura/Stewart Island. It provides a slightly more realistic airstrip than MSFS does.

Hi
any reason the terminal building wouldn't load? Everything else (Hangars, R/W, taxiways, fuel etc) fine but no terminal (this is the only NZNV scenery I have and no DEM/other overlays)

That's a good question and something I have not been able to recreate. The model itself is a stock unit from within the game itself.

Thanks dude. NZPP isn’t an airport I have been to. But it looks small enough. Might make my next project.

Thank you for this. Invercargill has been overlooked as a destination in my Southland flights. No more, thanks to you.
