FLY RADIO
Welcome to Fly Radio, a virtual radio receiver for your Flight Simulator 2020 experience. Listen to local streaming radio anywhere in the world, talk, music, sports, and more! Listed stations are based on your location and altitude and will update realtime as you fly.
FEATURES
- RADIO DATABASE: Uses Radio.Garden's massive worldwide and regularly updated streaming radio database to provide worldwide radio access.
- LOCATION AND ALTITUDE INTEGRATED: Available stations are based upon the line of site from your current location, including altitude above ground. As you climb you will see further from your location, as you descend you will see less. Maximum line of site is currently hard-coded at 300 miles (plans in place to make this adjustable in a settings page in a future version). See the range and direction to the station you are streaming in realtime. Minimum range is hard-coded to 30 miles when on the ground (plans in place to make this adjustable in a settings page in a future version).
- STATION WEBSITE INTEGRATION: Want to learn more about the station you're listening to? Click on the station title in the stream section and load up the station's website!
HOW TO INSTALL AND RUN
- Extract the MSI and EXE file from the zip.
- Run setup.exe.
- Shortcut will be installed on your desktop.
- Launch the application. If the connection status indicator is green, you're good to go. Clicking the status indicator will attempt to reconnect (or it will disconnect from the sim if currently connected).
FUTURE PLANS (AS I GET TIME TO DEVELOP THIS MORE)
- USER INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS: This is a first-run on the UI and was a project to see if it was possible to pull off more than anything. I think I can clean up the UI and make it a bit "prettier".
- STATION FILTERING/FAVORITES/HIDING: In some locations the number of available stations can be in the hundreds when at altitude. Plans are to add filtering options to give you options to shrink the list as desired, add a favorites options for stations you love, and a hiding option to hide stations you don't like from the list so you don't see them.
- SETTINGS OPTIONS: Wanting to add settings options such as minimum line of site when on the ground, maximum line of site range.
- RADIO EFFECTS: These will take a lot of work so will be down the road a ways!
- AM modulation mode where static, station fade, and drop to static as it goes out of range.
- FM modulation mode where station will start experincing "capture effect" as it falls out of range and another station starts to come into range.
- Integration with VPilot to reduce volume when receiving transmissions on air band frequencies (not sure if this is possible, but hoping it is)
- YOUR IDEAS: Would love to hear other ideas on what other enhancements would be neat!
SUPPORT
- Please join our Discord for support and feedback!
- I've spent a lot of time debugging and testing this app, but as with any application I'm sure it isn't perfect. Please let me know of any bugs.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
- This couldn't be possible without the amazing work of RADIO.GARDEN. Their database is amazing!
- Got to give an acknowledgement to the Jumpseat Radio app as well. Not trying to copy their work, but wanted to try something similar with more stations and a few different features as a fun side project to enhance my Flight Sim experience.

Jumpseat radio is also a good program for hearing local radios

It may or may not be a good program based on personal preference. I personally feel that it is inconvenient to provide an email address and password to log in to the program when Fly Radio gives you the exact same features as Jumpseat Radio, but without any kind of subscription. Fly Radio is more of a simple plug and play, where Jumpseat Radio is more of a "give me your data" program.

Going to try out your mod... looks good! What I really need is a hands off immersive local radio for bush flying in VR. To that end I would like to use keys / voice attack via key presses sent to the app to on/off, volume up/down/mute, pick a random local/favorite station, next/previous station. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

This is GTA radio merged with MSFS 2020. Insane idea <3

This is a great app. There are loads of stations to choose from and it is stable. Thank you for this. When you do put radio effects to the app, can you give the user the option to turn the effects on and off?

Oh will definitely be optional. I'm thinking of having a selector switch between "AM" "FM" and "Satellite" mode (where current design would be "Satellite").

Thanks for this. It is light, simple and works really well!
I guess I would love to listen to podcasts from well known platforms like ivoox and maybe have it within MSFS, but the app is really good as it is.
