You are going to fly over the Shaba National Reserve in Nairobi, Africa. This is where some of the movie "Out of Africa" starring Robert Reford and Meryl Streep was filmed. If you haven't seen the movie, it is a wonderful movie filled with the beauty, diversity, and danger of that continent. You will be flying the Curtiss Jenny. Be aware that there is no compass or GPS in a Jenny that you will be flying. This is how the 1923 pilots got around, dead reckoning and good piloting skills. Whereas today’s pilots have a wealth of navigational technologies available at their fingertips, the early pilots who flew the Jenny couldn’t have done it without relying on more timeless forms of navigational aids. Landmarks and other key visual references along the route were essential to guiding these planes.
