Hi, I'll check the airport in dev mode today, let's see, what can be done as an overlay mod. I won't promise too much, it depends, if it can be done easy without rebuilding the airport from scratch.
To go a bit deeper - there are still a lot of limitations with the actual SDK.
What I do for the collection: opening an airport in dev mode, adding stuff (lights, jetways, cars,tower, fauna, default buildings, etc) and it is possible to delete and replace wrong positioned AI buildings and fauna, also the terraforming can get adjusted to some reasonable extend.
And here is one of the limitations - e.g. you can't delete these bulb lights, typically hovering over car parks or aprons. These are hardcoded in the sim, I've seen them even in payware airports.
From here - if you want to change something like removing x-ed runways, adjusting the taxiway centerlines, markings on the apron, creating or adjusting parking positions, it is necessary to add an "airport"-object to the mod. If you do that, everything but the AI buildings and the underlying Bing sat image is instantly gone.
That's OK, because it is what you want, but then you have to rebuild everything from scratch, painting taxi lines, adding runways with the correct alignment, approach lights, and the like.
A few days ago someone was asking for a chinese airport not existing in the sim. Would have been cool, but the underlying Bing image was so bad, bluish and blurry that it would have been necessary to create new Google orthos, because only a very small number of texture for aprons and taxiways are opaque, most of them are transparent, I think you get the idea. It will take days to work on this and there is a life besides MSFS 😉
